KAALAPANI is a malayalam film directed by Priyadarshan. The film is about freedom struggle and the lives of prisoners in British India who are brought to KAALAPANI, a jail in Port Blair , Andaman and nicobar isleneds.
Mohanlal done a great job in the film and the story is about the suffering of Govardhan(Mohanlal) a young man who is wrongly accused of being an extremist freedom fighter and is then jailed.
The film have many violent scenes. There was a scene that the Govardan had sucked the shoes of jail suprend
Usually we put iron box on our dresses. BUt in the film, a scene shows that an iron box wap putting in human body and it was too violent. There is a man eating man scene also in the film.
KAALAPANI is the dream work of Priyadarshan and it released in 450 theatres all over the world on 1996. This is one of the best of INdian films and it is a milestone in Malayalam film history.
We can feel an originality in whole film. Priyadarshan is a great talented man but now a days he is wasting his real talents by copying other movies. But the film KAANCHEEVARAM was different work of Priyadarshan.

The film was actually taken in malayalam. But the half of the film's dialogues are in other languages: Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, English and German. The film was dubbed to hindi, tamil, telugu, etc. The film introduced dolby stereo in malayalam. The tamil version released with dts prints also. Actually the words KAALA PANI is taken from hindi and it means BLACK WATER in English
